BIGGEST SALE YET FOR RESTO SHOW
Classic Car Auctions kicks its year off at the Practical Classics Classic Car and Restoration Show and the sale is packing more than 200 cars
This two-day sale is taking place at the restoration show so it stands to reason that there will be a good choice of projects on offer. Among those is a collection of first-generation Range Rovers, from the very earliest to the later, plusher five-door models and two Monteverdi five-doors – a Janspeed turbo and an Overfinch prototype previously owned by the company’s founder.
A Uk-market 1957 Jaguar 2.4 showing 43,000 miles and with two owners from new (the first of whom kept it until 1998) has an estimate of £14-18k and a one-owner 1986 XJ6 4.2 with 50,239 miles and 22 service stamps is estimated at £10-12k.
For Fast Ford fans who have had enough of RS and XR models there’s a (believed unique) 1973 Ford Capri GXL that Essex-based Super Speed converted to Ford 351ci Cleveland V8 power. The engine has been re-built, the running gear and suspension upgraded and the whole car restored. Its £30-40k estimate looks tempting.
Also heading to the NEC is a 1962 Uk-market MGB Roadster that the vendor bought three years ago is estimated at £13-15k but it’s noted that the previous owner had owned the car since 1970.
A 1959 Austin Mini that’s believed to be third oldest South African example and came to the UK in 1966 pitches up with a £19-22k estimate. Another 1959 example – an Austin in Deluxe showing just over 15,000 miles – is estimated at £18-22k and a one-owner 1970 Clubman 1275GT project has a £7-9k estimate.
Meanwhile, a rare 1974 Vauxhall Magnum 1800 estate that has been in one family’s ownership from new is estimated at £10-12k. From the same year comes a Rover 2200SC that has covered 11,000 miles from new and been in one family’s ownership for nearly 50 years. It’s estimated at £1215k. A concours-winning 1975 2200SC showing 15,108 miles from new, meanwhile, is estimated at £10-12k.
