‘I bought it in 2001 – I was ac­tu­ally look­ing for a Boxster,’ says Mac. ‘My wife Sue and I went to Spe­cial­ist Cars of Mal­ton and the Boxsters were about £28k. But this caught my eye – just 201 UK right-hand drive Su­per Sports Tar­gas were made – and it was £20k. These days you’d pay £55k and Boxsters are about £5k.

‘It hasn’t had any restora­tion work yet. It needed a new pas­sen­ger-side door latch – a £100 scrap­yard job – but on the day that was fixed the clutch went! It cost £2000 all-in.

‘It had 42,000 miles on the clock when I bought it, and it now has 97,000. The en­gine’s never given any trou­ble at all. It also re­turns 27-30mpg, and I don’t ex­actly hold back.’
