One last unsung Porsche hero?

-

It becomes harder by the month to pick classics at the modern end of the market whose prices might head in the right direction as well as providing entertainment. However, one strong potential candidate in this ‘unicorn’ class is the 996 Porsche Turbo. At the moment their prices are still steadily falling, but they are starting to look ridiculously low compared to those for 964- and 993-era Turbos, both of which still top out in six figures. The 996 is currently at a fraction of that.

Take, as an example, the ’02 Turbo X50 recently offered at silverstone Auctions’ onemarque Porsche sale. This was a smart blackover-black car with solid Porsche and specialist history that records 14 services dividing its 55,358 miles. And that X50 tag means it got 30bhp over the standard Turbo, bringing it up to 450bhp for the four-wheel drive system to tame. That is a lot of car for the £37,083 paid, but that’s what they are going for at the moment. What’s next – higher or lower?
