Owning a Porsche 911 (964) Carrera 2
Porsche 964 register secretary Mark Byrne explains, ‘I’ve owned the car for five and a half years. An RS would’ve been my ultimate choice but I could have bought five Carrera 2s for the price of one RS at the time.’
‘I bought it as a bit of a project – it needed some cosmetic attention but mechanically it was nearperfect. I had a full concours-level bodywork restoration costing around £7500 carried out – glass out, rust repairs and show prep finish – and had some minor modifications made such as a decat pipe and stiffer, lower coilover suspension.
‘Parts can still be bought from Porsche – you can even get parts from Euro Car Parts. They’re very simple to work on and support from online clubs and specialists is second to none.
‘Tiptronic is perfect for a relaxed drive to a country pub on a sunny day. However, if you want to get a move on, it’s no slouch and manual mode works pretty well.’
