Owning a Ferrari 308GTSI

-

Ian Mitchell moved from Fiat 124 Spider ownership into this low-mileage 308. ‘The fuelinjected version was particularly appealing to me because I was not entirely comfortable with the notion of having a fuel spill in an engine that likes to run very hot just behind my head. Hardened Ferrari drivers might say that I’m a wimp; so be it. The easily removable targa top clinched it for me.

‘Parts availability is excellent. I’ve had to replace one of the rear dampers and the brakes have had a recent service with the rear callipers refurbished; in total that cost £1590.25. Road tax is £270 per year, and I have it on a good-value joint insurance policy with my wife’s Abarth 595.’

I’ve covered 1800 miles in just over a year and have had no breakdowns. The five-speed gearbox and engine are something else, while its road-holding capability and aerodynamic styling make it run like an arrow through the air. However, I’m now 76 years old and we’re downsizing, so with no garaging at my new home, it’s now for sale.’
