Owning an Aston Martin DB6
Andrew Fawkes says, ‘Naturally the Bond thing got me into Aston Martin as a brand, but as a seven year old the current model was the DB6 and it captured my imagination. I bought this car 20 years ago and I’ve covered 60,000 miles in that time – we’ve been to France, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Ireland, Monaco and Sainsbury’s.
‘Parts are readily available and the AMOC is an excellent resource for all things Aston. Most consumables are shared with other makes and models; it’s only if you break Astonmade parts (body, interior, engine block, etc) that it starts to get a bit costly… but they’re still available. In 2016 I had the car renovated rather than restored; I only replaced things that needed to be replaced, everything else was either repaired or put back. Part of that involved a full respray to modern paint.
‘I reckon I’ve spent around £140k in total, including the big renovation bills, but I wanted to ensure that the car is good for another 60,000 miles.’
