CHOOSE YOUR TRIUMPH TR7
Built in Speke, Merseyside, the Harris Mannstyled four-speed Triumph TR7 coupé was launched in 1974, initially for export only. UK sales started in 1976, whereupon five-speed and automatic gearboxes became options.
BL built both Sprint and TR7 V8 prototypes in 1977, the former using a Dolomite Sprint 16v four, the latter a 3.5-litre Rover V8. These were also used in the works rally cars, prompting many aftermarket conversions.
A Giovanni Michelotti-designed Convertible version was released in 1979.
After an early run of V8-engined TR8 coupés were built in 1978-9, the export-only coupé and convertible TR8 was launched in 1980. All TR7 and TR8 production ended in October 1981.
