ISDT Bullet

-

It has been suggested that I get in touch with you as a possible source of help in the restoration of NAB 846, Johnny Brittain's 1954 Royal Enfield 350 Bullet, on which he was part of the British team who all won golds in the ISDT of that year.

Johnny sold the bike to Graham Garner, of RE agents T Garner and Son (he was the son!), who then sold the bike on to one of his employees, Tony Lynch. Tony became an RE agent himself and later the Bullet specialist for the REOC. He converted the bike to a café racer, installing a JS500 Bullet engine, but keeping the parts removed. In Jim Reynolds' 1990 book, Best of British Bikes, he stated his intention of putting the bike back to its original ISDT condition, or at least the condition it was in as bought, perhaps stripped of some of its goodies. He sadly died before completing the task, although he had begun it, cobbling together the rolling chassis. It is his son, Steve, who wants the bike completed and has asked for my help in doing so. We are hopeful that the parts, such as they were, removed from the ISDT bike, are still in the cellar of the shop, now owned and run by Steve, but as it's been a dumping ground for the best part of 60 years, you might imagine the task ahead.

I would be most grateful if you would respond to my email, even in the negative. Piecing together the history of the bike is not easy, and establishing its spec. is proving harder still.
