RETRO REBOOT

By the time you read this, the Hundred Pound Hound will be stripped and ready to be sorted out. But what should it look like? This is where you come in…

SPECIAL! What should our £100 Hound look like?

Yes, things have been very slow going on the project bike front for me. I blame a hormonal teenager being in the house. Well, that’s my story. But, things are now moving on apace. Firstly, CMM pal Daryll Young has finally been able to drop a van-load of boxes that masquerade as a Kawasaki GPZ900R A6. That means I can finally get started on getting the various bits stripped, powder-coated and painted. As mentioned last time out, I’ve now decided on the GPZ being a standard restoration in the same 1989 colours of black with gold decals, although every time Top Gun comes on the box I do have a wobble and break out the Ray-bans… So back to the Hundred Pound Hound: last time out I mentioned the bits I’ve got lined up, which include a YSS Z-series rear shock, a GPR end can to be mated with the £400 Motad downpipes fitted just a few years before I bought the bike. Then there are the LSL levers and other assorted odds and sods. Mechanically it was clear this was going to be an upgrade of the basic VFR750 F-R, but I did want it to be a little sportier than standard. So the rear rack is going and a pillion pad cowl will be painted in the same colours as the bike. Oh yes, paint. With the bike being a sporty take on the VFR750 I figured on the bike having something racier than the all-black scheme currently sported by the V4. 1/ Should it be a Wayne Rainey replica? 2/ Or perhaps more like an NS400R stroker? Idly mentioning such ideas on what to make of the VFR looks-wise when it’s finally done was enough to spark off our very own Retro Reboot god Kar Lee into action. He asked me for a three-quarters shot of a standard VFR750 F-R and unbeknownst to me, he got to work. And here are the results, stunning, I think you’ll agree. But here’s the rub… what scheme to choose? Well, that’s where you come in. Here are the best colour schemes that Kar did, the one with the most votes will be chosen.
