Looking ahead

-

Specials builds come with absolutely no guarantees, a plan that can and will change at a moment’s notice and a budget best described as elastic. Once the motor is together there’s a need to sort out a decent ignition system. After all the work to date it would simply be wrong headed to throw the old points and coil unit back on. I’ve learnt the value of a well thought out fully digital system courtesy of Rob Pemberton’s classy marriage of a Power Dynamo ignition kit allied to a Zeeltronic black box on my RD350 so that’s the route we’ll be taking. With this sussed out we can, at long last, reunite the engine with the chassis and from here we’ll be shaking the bike down in what will amount to a wet dry build, if that makes sense. The bike will be commissioned with a rudimentary wiring loom that will allow us to prove the concept and then, once we’re happy with everything, the whole lot will have to come apart to be painted. I for one can’t wait!
