THE PLAYERS
ADAM ANT
Stuart Goddard, the former bassist of Bazooka Joe – a group less famous for their output than their associations. While bandmate Daniel Kleinman went on to make his name directing James Bond opening title sequences, Goddard transformed into Adam Ant, playing a range of instruments on the record.
MARCO PIRRONI
Marco first played with Siouxsie And The Banshees at their debut (featuring Sid Vicious behind the kit), before the Models (alongside Terry Lee Miall), later joining the Ants as guitarist and co-songwriter. He continued to be a key player throughout Ant’s solo career. According to Chris Hughes, Marco and Adam were like Mick and Keith, driving forces behind the band.
KEVIN MOONEY
Besides his busy basslines, Kevin Mooney deserves serious props for his nonchalant, swagger-loaded ‘bass face’ poses, perfectly adding to the picture of bravado. He would marry the Ants’ former manager, associate member and punk visionary, Pamela Rooke (aka Jordan). He left just as Antmania was taking hold, to be replaced by Gary Tibbs. Later, Mooney collaborated with Sinéad O’Connor on her debut album, The Lion And The Cobra.
CHRIS ‘MERRICK’ HUGHES
The drummer and producer went on to work with many Classic Pop staples, including Tears For Fears, Howard Jones and Peter Gabriel. Like Pirroni, he was a key catalyst in the Ants’ revamped sound. Originally hired as a producer, he became the band’s lead drummer by default.
TERRY LEE MIALL
Terry previously played in punk group, the Models, alongside Pirroni, and was auditioned as the second drummer. After the Ants’ split, he was the only member not to continue in music, apparently going back to a regular job as a plumber.
