I DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU WANT BUT I CAN’T GIVE IT ANY MORE

Directed by Pedro Romhanyi, this begins with two silver-suited people who flick switches and twist knobs on an elaborate control console triggering various dystopian machinery that transforms Neil and Chris – reclined on an operating table – into their Nightlife characters. White dust is blown onto the naked pair before they are clothed in their samurai-inspired outfits. Finally, emerging from a lift, the duo walk amidst a concrete jungle with two grey dogs each, surrounded by citizens all resembling them, including a closing shot sat on a bench with two mini-mes.

NEW YORK CITY BOY

Filmed in London and New York, this promo opens with the young protagonist of its title strumming a red Fender Stratocaster, DJ-ing some records, before a cheeky animated Deborah Harry winks at him from a poster on his bedroom wall triggering a fantasy trip to NYC to experience the different decades of history in the Big Apple. Our New York City Boy gets lost amidst a cast of sailors dancing in unison, finger-clicking 50s hepcats, 80s breakdancers, corporate suits, nightworkers and hedonistic Studio 54 party people. As he lies down on a bench to sleep, he is returned to the safety of his room.

YOU ONLY TELL ME YOU LOVE ME WHEN YOU’RE DRUNK

Such a great title required an equally great video, again helmed by Pedro Romhanyi. Here, the camera descends, mounted above a group of people seemingly asleep on the floor beneath. The camera hovers along, resting on several Neil clones, all of whom sing the track. Next a squatting Chris takes over amidst the sleeping throng, before we meet a standing Neil who continues the song, seemingly emotionless. Lights flash and the cast rise up behind him, now dancing and embracing as if lost to the night. As the couples lie down to sleep, the scene returns to how it started.
