After winning both the 500 Classic and 350 Post-classic ACU UK championships, Mike Cooper was most people’s favourite to take the Classic Racer of the Year Trophy and thus it proved on the night, with Kevin Hunt and Alan Cracknell winning the Sidecar Racers of the Year award after their terrific performances in the Period 3 championship. Additional trophies announced on the night included, Les Judkins (Chairman’s Cup); Matthew Truelove (Doug Jones Trophy, best young rider); Carol Klatkiewicz (Cathcart Trophy, non-committee member); Reg Squire (Lodge Brothers Trophy); Mark George (Rear of the Year); Ronald Blakeley and Belinda Colston (Will Smith Sidecar Trophy); Mike Driver (Mick Collins Trophy, achievement against all odds); Clive Ling (Belgium Cup, best overseas performance); Lancelot Unissart (Daytona Cup, best overseas rider); Mike Pennell (Stella Cathcart Trophy, best novice); Reg Squire (Bob Anderson Trophy, Clubman of the Year); John Warwick (Commentator’s Cup); Harry and Matthew Truelove (Gerald Davison Trophy, most improved rider); The formalities concluded with a tombola in support of the Joan Seeley Pain Relief Memorial Trust, which raised a very healthy £900 on the night and swelled the fund to an admirable £4100 thus far raised. Earlier in the day, members had gathered for an Agm.treasurer, tony Finch, announced that although the club had a very strong financial performance in 2014, membership and entry fees would have to undergo a small increase due to rises in the cost of insurance. As for other issues, the AGM was a sedate affair, with little changes to the status quo which would indicate that the club is running things in the right manner. 2015 race venues are Pembrey, Cadwell Park, Anglesey, Brands Hatch, Donington Park, Lydden Hill and Snetterton. Some, but not all meetings are now three day affairs with practice on the Friday. Octogenarian, Les Judkins was made an honorary member of the club in recognition of his many years’ service to motorcycle racing.

“AS FOR OTHER ISSUES, THE AGM WAS A PRETTY SEDATE AFFAIR, WITH LITTLE CHANGES.”
