Classic Racer
CRMC SNETTERTON
The cold, rainy and windy weather meant that the CRMC’S second meeting of the season turned out to be a tough test of skill and determination for the big entry of competitors who made the trip to Norfolk’s Snetterton 200 circuit. While Graham Lawlor gratefully recorded the proceedings from the comfort of the commentary box, Russ Lee braved the elements to capture some great photos.
Left: A thrilling 12-lap Hercberg ACU P/C Classic Race of Aces saw Phil Atkinson (TZ350), Hudson Kennaugh (69, Veryard TZ350) and Mark Cronshaw (8, Minnovation T350) swapping the lead throughout. With Atkinson retiring on the penultimate lap, Cronshaw led Kennaugh into the final lap but overdid it in the tricky conditions, leaving the delighted South African to take the win.
Right: Defying the greasy conditions, Rob Wittey lets it all hang out on his beautifully prepared Kawasaki GPZ 1170 P/C Superbike 2. The Engineer from Aylesbury stormed to three Superbike victories and was also the first four-stroke and fourth overall in the Classic Race of Aces.
Above: Hudson Kennaugh (centre) celebrates his memorable victory in the Hercberg ACU P/C Classic Race of Aces with third-place finisher Kev Wholey (Gourlay TZ350). Second-place finisher Ant Hart (TZ350) is represented here by his wife Laura.
Below: Since their recent introduction the Superstocks have proven to be a fast growing class, with 24 entered at Snetterton, where they were combined with Superbike 1 and the big classic bikes to produce some great racing. Gordon Russell, Danny Imberg and John Warwick shared the honours, with Warwick (58, Yamaha FZ750) surging to a memorable outright win in the final leg.
Above: In the sidecars no one got a sniff of Kevin Hunt/alan Cracknell on their flying Pd.3 Patterson Imp, but a little further back it was also a successful meeting for Matt Kingsmill/paul Sands, who racked up four Pd.1 wins on the MRE BMW 750.
Above: Super-cool Alan Oversby kept his head in dicey conditions while all about him others slipped or fell to clinch a masterful victory in the Minnovation/acu Classic 500 race on the Davies Motorsport Honda.
