Classic Racer

Welcome

-

It was whilst Malc and I were talking/ planning/wasting a bit of time telling stories etc (delete whatever you think appropriate) that we inevitably got on to the subject of our favourite races and racers. More specifically, the racers who we haven’t yet featured in CR and would really like to. Now, as the person who steers this ship with Malc’s assistance I’ve got a long list of favourite racers I want to feature – Malc has a long list too. It’s a fine list. But what we know is our list needs to absolutely be on point with your list. For instance, I want to run a feature about Dave Leach. I was a big Leach fan when he was at the height of his powers and I loved watching him onthe Island and short circuits. The same fandom surrounds Paul ‘Marra’ Brown, Jay Vincent and a whole host of others from a time where a perfectly set-up carbed bike, the right factory kit and, more importantly, the good tyres for raceday, allowed those with talent to take it to the established, world stars. Malc’s list of racing heroes is equally diverse, split between the huge names of the time and the nearly-men who would shine brightly when they were allowed, or worked out the money to get that foot in the door. The point is, CR is never going to be just about the big names and the big bikes of any time gone past. I’m keen to prod the interest of all of you and I know (boy… do I know…) how passionate and quick to admonish me some CR readers are if we get it wrong. So, I don’t want to. Obviously I want to make this magazine even stronger and to continue the huge growth we’ve seen in the past couple of years. But the best way to do that is to deliver more of whatyou want. So let us know the big names and the nearly men, plus their machines, who you want to see in future issues. Malc and I sincerely welcome any and all suggestions and we’ll consider them all for CR’S next phase. We can fill this magazine many times over, but it’s the fine tuning of how we do that which will bag us a flying lap each issue.think of it as tuning. We’ve got the sheer grunt and there’s loads of time in the session left, if you have an idea on a tweak here and there then let us know and we’ll head out to see how well it goes. Happy Newyear to you all and here’s to a fantastic season and 12 months all round.
