HUNGARY
The Hungaroring is a motor racing circuit in Hungary. The first race was held on March 24, 1986, and dedicated to the memory of János Drapál, the first Hungarian to win a motorcycle Grand Prix, and who had died in a crash the previous year at the Piešt’any circuit in former Czechoslovakia. Although it was only used in the Grand Prix world championship in 1990 and 1992, it produced two significant moments in the sport, Michael Doohan winning his first ever Grand Prix in the 1990 500cc race and Eddie Lawson giving the Cagiva team their first victory in racing after an inspired tyre decision in 1992. It proved to be an unpopular circuit within the Grand Prix motorcycling paddock, though it remains a permanent fixture on the Formula One calendar.
