It’s a two-fold type of benefit when you subscribe to Classic Racer – you get the magazine for less money than if you buy it in the shops and it’ll arrive at your house (or wherever you choose to have it sent) ahead of the issue being placed on the newsstand. And it’s also occurred to us that it means you don’t have to step outside into the ice-cold drizzle that has currently wrapped itself around us all, too. So that’s three-fold actually. Yes, three.

Twenty years ago the names Gregorio Lavilla and Noriyuki Haga were easy on the lips of most race fans around the world – and for good reason.

Both were as hard as nails and when push came to shove, both were up for a scrap.

Haga’s place in racing history is long established and assured; Greg’s place should be equally as high, but isn’t quite, which is weird because Lavilla was skilled, quick and not afraid of a row – ideal for the, then, battle of WSB. And tough, he was tough too.

He missed four rounds this season, through injury, but came back to go toe-totoe with Nori. Never an easy task – even if you’re back to pre-smash best.

Okay, so he wasn’t on a Ducati, but that hardly seemed to matter...
