PIROVANO REP RAFFLED!

-

This 2020-spec Yamaha YZF-R1 sports the famous white, pink and blue colours of the late, great Fabrizio Pirovano’s 1993 Yamaha YZF750 SP and was raffled in aid of his family’s chosen charity.

The special ‘Piro replica’ is a completely unique bike created by Yamaha Motor Europe and it was auctioned off late in 2020 in aid of Fondazione Oncologia Niguarda Onlus. The 1998 World Supersport champion died in 2016 after a brave battle with cancer.

The lucky winner had two choices: either have the bike delivered in race trim, exactly as it was for the Estoril tribute lap (where Piro won on the YZF in 1993) or in fully road legal trim with the Piro Replica bodywork, the Akrapovič race exhaust and the Pirelli slick shod wheels supplied as a separate kit. For the photoshoot, 1992 125cc World Champion Alessandro Gramigni rode the unique machine.

An unnamed bidder won the machine for a cool 27,000 Euros. Andrea Dosoli, Yamaha Motor Europe Road Racing Manager said: “There was a lot of interest for the ‘Piro’ Replica R1 and we’re delighted that someone has the opportunity of owning such a unique bike. It’s been on an emotional journey since it was created and unveiled in Portugal. We’re also proud to be able to support such an important and instrumental charity: it’s exactly what Fabrizio would have wanted.”
