With reference to your photo of Old Hall corner of the Match Races and the article entitled ‘Tree Huggers' I am – indeed – the one in the blue leather. I watched from there for many years and I was also the person who instigated such a lofty perch!

I witnessed the (sadly now) late, great Peter

Williams crash from there and the serious sidecar crash and fire at the top of Clay Hill.

I myself raced for 48 years starting in 1970 on a brand-new Triumph Trident which was a friend's. I came 3rd and won £2 which my mate took £1 of! But the racing bug had bitten.
