PETER HILLABY

-

Peter Hillaby – a man long associated with the Auto 66 Club and racing at Scarborough’s Oliver’s Mount Circuit – passed away late last year, aged 78.

Hillaby was – until his retirement in 2018 – the major force behind racing at the seaside holiday resort. He had been battling against Parkinson’s Disease in recent years.

For many years he was the force behind the highly successful racing activities of the Auto 66 club and the promoter of racing in its heyday at the legendary Oliver’s Mount circuit bordering the seaside holiday resort of Scarborough. As well as Oliver’s Mount, Hillaby was also instrumental in planning events at Elvington, Cadwell Park and Carnaby.

In his heyday, he helped secure appearances at Scarborough Bike Week from the likes of Giacomo Agostini, Barry Sheene, Phil Read and Carl Fogarty as well as the late Duke of Edinburgh for the Golden Jubilee.
