Classic Racer

Editor’s welcome

-

Welcome to the latest issue of Classic Racer magazine – and let me start off with an apology.

We’re sorry it’s taken a little while for our (well, Alan Cathcart’s…) article on the Geoff Duke Velocette, it was late and missed the last two issues for a mixture of reasons. Firstly, Sir Al is a perfectionist and wanted to do a little more research and, secondly, he had some travelling to do. We do hope you enjoy the test, even if we hoped to bring you both Velocettes in the same issue. It is amazing how both versions showed the longevity of the machine from the 1940s into the 1950s…

Talking of Sir Alan, he has also gone back ‘just’ 30 years to when a Ducati (but not Carl Fogarty’s) was dominating the production race scene in World Superbikes – it makes for a very interesting read…

From ‘just’ 30 years, we go back almost to the 1930s with the NSU RK500, a phenomenal machine which – in a later format – could achieve 110bhp and – in streamlined form – around 205mph… Incredible…

Those who love British race machines will love Mick Ofield’s latest line-art which focuses on the Greeves 24RDS Silverstone – maybe we should do a run oft-shirts with these amazing works of art on them?

One of our main features looks at our last, late, great 500cc world champion Barry Sheene: it’s amazing to think that it’s 45 years since he won his second championship – we look at how he did it this issue.

And of course we’ve brought news, info and reports from the likes of the CRMC, VMCC and Cookstown events.

Want to see more modern/classic events in the magazine?then do let us know. As I’ve said before – this ISYOUR magazine…
