Everybody leaves but the Thunder cracks on. Last year, four-fifths of Swedish rockers Thundermother quit the band, leaving only founder/guitarist Filippa Nässil left standing.

That’s usually a cue to fold up and go home, but instead Nässil rallied, recruited a whole new band, and recorded this, Thundermother’s third album.

A reboot in line-up but not in sound or attitude, Thundermother is rife with the band’s signature melodic hard rock anthems. Most of ’em appear to be about the last turbulent year – Fight For Rock N’ Roll, Revival, Survival Song, Won’t Back Down, Quitter, Follow Your Heart – and all of them sound like they’re pouring off the stage of an outdoor arena during an epic rainstorm in front of thousands of true believers.

It’s all very dramatic and probably too overblown for the denim and leather crowd, but if you like your rock’n’roll with a big old dollop of pomp, this’ll do the trick nicely.
