How The West Was Won

-

With Zeppelin’s first live album, The Song Remains The Same, something was lost in translation. Released in 1976 as the soundtrack to the band’s concert movie, it lacked the edge and atmosphere of classic live albums such as Deep Purple’s Made In Japan.

It was How The West Was Won that captured the Zeppelin live experience in all its power and glory. It was recorded in 1972, with the band at their peak, rolling through 20-plus-minute versions of Dazed And Confused and Whole Lotta Love, and a transcendent Stairway To Heaven, the ambience so warm you can almost smell the dope in the air.
