Hunky Dory, 1971

Classic Rock - - David Bowie -

with benefit of hindsight, Hunky Dory’s opening track has been identified as Bowie’s defining statement, a catchy manifesto for an ever-evolving career of risktaking, assimilation and staying one step ahead of the competition. With Bowie, new sounds and new styles always coexisted. He was as much an ever-on-trend fashion icon as he was a musical innovator, and, complete with the hubris of youth, Changes was his statement of intent. “I guess it was me being arrogant,” Bowie admitted in 2002. “It’s saying: ‘I’m going to be so fast you’re not going to be able to catch up with me.’”
