Groundbreaker
Groundbreaker Frontiers
British-Swedish AOR alliance: big tunes as standard.
This new project is not so much groundbreaking as Brexitdefying: a collaboration between Robert Sall, leader of Swedish melodic rock band Work Of Art, and Steve Overland, singer with UK AOR heroes FM. It was Serafino Perugino, president of Frontiers Records, who put Sall and Overland together, having previously teamed Sall with compatriot Erik Martensson of Eclipse and American singer Jeff Scott Soto in the supergroup W.E.T. And again, Perugino has found a winning combination.
Groundbreaker’s sound is both modern and classic, with a contemporary edge in Sall’s songwriting and Alessandro Del Vecchio’s production, and echoes of the 80s in neon-bright synths and a silky voice that has barely changed since FM’s early days. Bookended by two glorious anthems in Over My Shoulder and The Way It Goes, the album also includes a heroic power ballad, Something Worth
Fighting For.
With two masters of their art in perfect harmony, Groundbreaker is too good to be just a one-off.
