Believe In Nothing
EMI, 2001
Their third gothtronica album (following One Second and
1999’s Host) was a disaster.
Both Holmes and Mackintosh were struggling with personal issues during its creation, and it shows – Something Real and the atrocious Sell It To The World were the work of a band who had run out of road.
The band have pointed to a lacklustre production, but that was only part of the problem. A bigger issue was that they’d taken The Sisters Of Mercy/Depeche Mode approach as far as they could; what once sounded innovative now sounded clueless.
A remixed version of the album was released this year.
