Yes Featuring Jon Anderson, Trevor Rabin, Rick Wakeman

Live At The Apollo EAGLE VISION

- Malcolm Dome

Just joyous. Anyone fortunate enough to have seen this band on their 2017 tour will know it was a special occasion, with the magical combination of these three masters living up to all the hype and expectation that preceded it. This documentary, filmed at Manchester Apollo, is a magnificent reminder of those gigs. You can feel, hear and see the rapport between Anderson, Rabin and Wakeman, who revel in each other’s talents, and there’s never any sense of them trying to outdo one another.

The track-listing draws from the best of the Yes catalogue. Anderson proves he has lost none of his vocal prowess, Rabin’s guitar work is both understated yet, conversely, flamboyant, while Wakeman, draped in one of his trademark capes, dominates his mountain of keyboards; he even goes walkabout in the audience with a Keytar during the climax to Owner Of A Lonely Heart.

The camera work enables us to really appreciate how this trio – together with bassist Lee Pomeroy and drummer Lou Molino III – interact with one another and the rapt audience.

Overall this is a compelling concert experience.
