Over the years, Born To Be Wild has become the go-to cover version for anyone keen to emphasise their rebellious credentials, including Rose Tattoo, Riot, Raven, INXS and The Cult. It has also become the go-to choice of cover version for anyone keen to lampoon the same, from electronic duo the Moog Cookbook to Sacha Baron Cohen’s Borat, who used a version by Romanian brass outfit Fanfare Ciocˇarlia to soundtrack his journey across America in an ice cream van.

Perhaps the strangest cover was by Ozzy Osbourne, who duetted with Muppet Miss Piggy (pictured) on a version that appeared on 1994’s Kermit Unpigged album. “I’m not a big Miss fucking Piggy fan!” said Ozzy. “But I like to do different things to keep my head going, you know what I mean?”
