Supersuckers
Suck This
Three years ago, head Sucker Eddie Spaghetti smashed his camper, got cancer, went broke and was left for dead on the side of the road, just another cowboy-shaped smear on rock’n’roll’s asphalt highway. But like the music he has been championing for 30 years, he will not go down without a fight, and Suck This is the triumphant sound of victory snatched from the angry jaws of defeat.
On an album rougher and grittier than they’ve been in years, Supersuckers lay out a clutch of furious dive-bar burners. And while Spaghetti’s penchant for a sweet classicrock hook is still evident, particularly on the reflective Dead Inside and the honky-tonky Cold Wet Wind, this record is mostly about AC/DC-esque levels of blistering, high-watt rock action. Breakin’ Balls and opener All The Time are two of the loudest, nastiest Suckers tunes ever, while What’s Up With This Motherfuckin’ Thing is the most rocking middle-aged lament ever written.
