Pigsx7 made a name for themselves following their 2017 debut album Feed The Rats. Its sludgy, propulsive dirge caught the attention of the UK underground as well as a few scene heavyweights, culminating in a guest appearance from cult art-rock figurehead Richard Dawson on this follow-up.
King Of Cowards picks up where that debut left off, but brings their raucous take on stoner rock into sharper focus: the grooves are weightier, the wig-outs go deeper and the songs are more concise, more structured. Shockmaster provides a rib-rattling album highlight, driven by thundering riffs and filthy psychedelia, while A66 kicks up a racket before dissolving into a compelling, swirling climax.
With stoner rock’s monotonous thrum as a template you’re always going to have to work a little harder to break through with something genuinely interesting, and Pigsx7 don’t always manage it here. But, given the progression from last year’s debut, we predict they’re only just getting started.
