I’ll Be Damned

Road To Disorder

- dom lawson

Denmark’s new saviours of balls-out rock’n’roll.

Sounding more than ready to follow Volbeat into the stratosphere, this Danish quintet’s versatility becomes swiftly apparent on their second full-length. Snotty opener Stephen Hawking Talking offers 150 seconds of pure punk’n’roll pugilism, haunted by the spectre of Lemmy and reeking of gasoline, before The Entire Universe’s seven minutes of lumbering, woozy, psychedelic doom metal stridently broadens the sonic view.

It’s back to punchy riff evangelism on the DC-driven soul attack of You Are The

Young and then we’re off on an unexpected but welcome tangent for the snarling, brutish Pigburner, which comes replete with hellish death metal growls.

The surprises keep coming, not least Just Ain’t Right’s turbocharged UFO-isms, but I’ll Be Damned are simply a badass rock‘n’roll band and sound utterly at home with every stylistic detour. The result is an album full of great songs, monstrous riffs and an abundance of mad-eyed, vein-bursting energy.
