Ed Sheeran Is Shit
Everett True
Former NME/Melody Maker journalist surveys the charred musical landscape.
A some-time music journalist who now runs courses in writing for a living, Everett True arose from the fanzine world of the mid-80s and that’s where his heart and soul still lie. Not for him the slick, bland imperatives of modern publishing, but rather swearing, tearing off lumps and taking no prisoners.
This collection of pieces ranges from expletive-ridden tirades against the likes of Ed Sheeran, Billy Corgan and Dave Grohl, to more detailed live reviews, considered and eloquent advice to aspiring critics, a moving and personal tribute to AC/DC’s Malcolm Young, then back to the swearing.
His point when stating categorically that, say, Bon Iver is shit is not to so much to explain why as to assert that you are allowed to say this sort of thing, despite a media environment in which punk iconoclasm has been rendered near-extinct.
