Those Damn Crows

Murder And The Motive Earache Modern American radio rock with a Welsh accent.

- Siân llewellyn

‘Rock’n’roll ain’t dead,’ scream Bridgend quintet Those Damn Crows on their debut album. Well, duh, this we know. And the reason we know is because there are still bands like TDC cranking out anthems like the aforementioned RNRAD and Don’t Give A Damn.

Lyrically they leave a bit to be desired, occasionally relying on well-worn rock’n’roll cliché and bad rhyme (‘As I walk on through these streets/My past I roam/This place that I call home’), but when you’re shouting along with the call-and-response ‘Who said rock’n’roll is dead?’ in a muddy field somewhere in the future, chances are you’re really not going to care.

Those Damn Crowes may have geography in common with the likes of Funeral For A Friend and Bullet For My Valentine, but they are far less metal and far more rock. Blink Of An Eye is one of those radio anthems that’ll sneak up on you – it’s the kinda thing that American bands do so well. If Alter Bridge, Foo Fighters, Shinedown et al are your jam, you’ll find a lot to enjoy here.
