The First Time

Matt Everitt

-

Based on, or more accurately transcribed from, the Everittfronted 6Music series of the same name, The First Time is basically the print version of the radio show that’s exactly what we all wish Desert Island Discs could be. Consequently, none of the people here choosing their favourite records are eminent marine biologists with a taste for Gilbert And Sullivan, but protagonists of contemporary music who are passionate and well-informed when it comes to their favourite records, stick to the central subject at hand and don’t go on and on about their career in brain surgery, discovery of a new species of macaque or how Henry Hall’s Teddy Bear’s Picnic always causes them to lose control of their bowels.

The First Time is packed with revealing conversations, recommendations and revelations from both ‘our’ team (Cooper, Lydon, Ulrich, Gabriel, Gilmour et al) and ‘theirs’: Florence Welch, Norman Cook. Though when faced with the former’s love of Green Day’s Dookie and the latter’s of Suzi Quatro’s Devil Gate Drive it becomes abundantly clear that, genres be damned, when it comes to good music we’re all on the same side.
