Neil Young Slams Trump

President “unfit to lead” after California fires comments.

Neil Young has lashed out at Donald Trump after the US president blamed the devastation of the recent California wildfires on environmentalists.

“Imagine a leader who defies science, saying these solutions shouldn’t be part of his decision-making on our behalf,” said Young, whose 17.6 acre Malibu residence went up in flames. “Imagine a leader who cares more for his own, convenient opinion than he does for the people he leads. Imagine an unfit leader. Now imagine a fit one.”

Metallica were among the stars from the world of entertainment to aid relief efforts for the tragedy, which as this issue went to press had claimed 821 lives and left almost 700 more missing. James Hetfield and company split their gift of $100,000 from the band’s All My Hands Foundation between two local funds to help survivors.

Other celebrities to make financial contributions include Sandra Bullock, Ellen DeGeneres, Miley Cyrus, Liam Hemsworth, Bella Hadid, Jamie Foxx, Sean Penn, Cindy Crawford, Rande Gerber, Minnie Driver and The Edge.

The inferno scorched 152,000 acres of land, destroying or damaging more than 15,000 homes and buildings. One estimate puts the cost of the damage at $1.2 billion (£900m). In a TV appearance, Trump twice referred to one of the towns affected, Paradise, as “Pleasure” and had to be corrected by bystanders. DL
