Dirty Pictures (Part 2) CONTENDER

Cool things be happening in Philadelphia these days, many of them at the hands of pianothumping, Jerry Lee Lewis-summoning rock’n’rollers Low Cut Connie. Where last LP Dirty Pictures (Part 1) was the giddy party soundtrack, Part 2 flitted between hip-wiggling sass and stirring, soulful storytelling; leaning on the latter for an all-round maturer sound. And in captivating ballad (and lead single) Beverly, they had one of frontman Adam Weiner’s finest singer/songwriter moments – if not the finest. PG
