Halestorm
Vicious ATLANTIC
Anyone who’d seen Halestorm live, since they started over 20 years ago, knew it was a different prospect to their albums. On stage we got the heavy, shrieking, full-throttle Halestorm. On record it was the tamed, shinily produced version.
Four albums in they changed tack, teamed up with Alice In Chains/ Mastodon producer Nick Raskulinecz and harnessed the full weight and energy of their live sound. The end result was a hard, catchy but utterly livid-sounding fireball of a record, on which they all sounded the way they do on stage. Singer/guitarist Lzzy Hale was on incendiary form, flanked by the raw yet super-tight chops of her bandmates. Songs like Black Vultures were practically spitting venom, while the likes of Buzz were powerfully angst-ridden. And the sole ballad featured, album closer The
Silence, was one of their best ever. PG
