Kissin’ Dynamite

Go on, give ‘em a kiss. But keep your phone out of sight.

As befitting a group named after an AC/DC song, Kissin’ Dynamite deliver their ear-worm melodies with a high-energy hard-rock backing. Drummer Andi Schnitzer handles the introductions for the German five-piece, who have has released six albums over the past 11 years.

Kissin’ Dynamite are quite a new name in Britain, but we love that you’re on a mission to bring back stadium rock. We grew up with the music of our parents, because they had better record collections than the kids at school. I’m talking about bands like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest – mainly the English ones, though we also like Guns N’ Roses, Mötley Crüe, Bon Jovi and of course AC/DC – which is why it’s so cool that we’re starting out in the UK at last.

Although the band members are yet to reach their thirties, your songs have railed against issues such as fans using their mobile phones at gigs. Nowadays everybody has a cellphone, but why does anybody feel the need to watch a show through a lens? They should live in the moment. It’s a senseless waste of time.

Before this upcoming headline UK gig, in January you did a handful of support shows with Powerwolf and Amaranthe. Presumably you were not entirely at home on such a heavy metal bill? I know what you mean. But Powerwolf is another band with choruses that you can sing along to, so it worked out well. For a bunch of Anglophiles like us, that tour was a very special experience.

Gene Simmons tells everyone that rock is dead. How do you respond? Gene is wrong, of course. Rock is not simply a style of music, it’s an attitude. It’s about living life and being a free spirit. In these troubled times, rock‘n’roll is the only salvation for some of us. It will never die. And of course we need new music. What will happen when the Stones finally retire?

Why should somebody buy a ticket for your UK headline debut? Because we always provide great entertainment, also because we are five very good-looking blokes [laughs]. That’s why I sit at the back surrounded by cymbals, to give the others a chance.

Kissin’ Dynamite play London’ The Underworld on October 18.
