Murder In The Front Row
MVD
The San Francisco Bay Area thrash metal story.
In the early 80s, thrash turned the metal scene upside down. And the Bay Area of San Francisco was at the heart of this revolution. This documentary, based on the 2011 photo book of the same title, brings back memories of a time when fanzines and tape trading helped bring underground bands into the spotlight. Interviewees include
members of Metallica, Slayer, Testament, Death Angel and Exodus. Everyone featured is manically enthusiastic in their recollections of the craziness and community spirit that existed back then. Plus there’s loads of photos and footage from those formative days, giving a taste of thrash’s excitement and intensity. There’s also lots of bonus material, including a feature on Ruthie’s Inn, maybe the most important venue in this story.
Murder In The Front Row is a riveting account of why the Bay Area became the location for thrash. ■■■■■■■■■■
