The Obsessed
Incarnate BLUES FUNERAL RECORDINGS
Rarities collection resurrected for Record Store Day.
Some tempting offers always surface for Record Store Day. Celebrating the fortieth anniversary of the formation of The Obsessed, this ultimate edition of their long-outof-print 1999 compilation Incarnate, remastered and expanded to 21 tracks, is a fine rag-bag of rarities, demos, B-sides and live cuts.
Although often tagged as underground doom pioneers, The Obsessed always had more wayward dirty rock’n’roll energy than the bands they inspired, main man Scott ‘Wino’ Weinrich a relentless riff machine who likes to do things his way. Including their debut Sodden Jackal EP from ‘83 but focusing mostly on material dating from around Lunar Womb (1991) and The Church Within (1994), this is enjoyably raw and groovy stuff. Uneven, for sure, but pretty good for a collection of odds and sods. ■■■■■■■■■■
