Black Stone Cherry

Live From The Sky

- Malcolm Dome

‘Despite the inevitable restrictions, Black Stone Cherry are a joy.’

Even with no audience the Kentucky rockers give it all they’ve got.

Black Stone Cherry don’t know how to perform live at anything other than full throttle. And they prove that when they play this livestreamed show from Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Despite the inevitable restrictions imposed by the current situation, due to which they’re playing to a virtually empty venue, this band are a joy. Their energy and passion shine through in a set-list aimed at highlighting their new album The Human Condition. In fact they open up with a new song, Again, setting a dynamic pace for the 16-song set, and the momentum barely lets up as they dive into the more familiar strains of Me And Mary Jane and Blind Man.

The band pepper the evening with the occasional song from the new album. Of these, Ringin’ In My Head and Ride stand out, and should become regulars in their live set.

One of the joys of watching Black Stone Cherry has always been their ability to be spontaneous, and this is showcased on both Cheaper To Drink Alone and In My Blood, both of which become extended jam sessions. This is where the band’s deep blues roots come through as the musicianship and almost telepathic connection between the members raise things to a new level.

They close with the joyous triple of Blame It On The Boom Boom, White Trash Millionaire and Lonely Train, a stunning way to end a memorable show.
