MOTÖRHEAD MUSIC/SILVER LINING MUSIC Second album from Lemmyapproved rockers.

More of a relaunch than a second album, really. A four-year gap between debut and follow-up basically means building from the ground up again. Yet this revamped line-up with main man Patrick Alan Stone leading from the front sound like they mean business and then some as opener Wide Awake blasts into life.

As a statement of intent it couldn’t be clearer, and the 10 tracks here crackle with confident energy, not least the hook-laden Zen and the potent Soul Searchers, while Amber Alert has one of the meanest riffs on the album. The band were originally signed to Motörhead Music by Lemmy, so it’s perhaps not surprising that Pardon Me is

Lemmy-inspired or that it features Phil Campbell on guitar. Elsewhere the band uncover some decent cash in the attic with a rattling cover of Folsom Prison Blues.

Focused and ambitious, Budderside are back for another crack of the rock’n’roll whip. ■■■■■■■■■■
