Carry On
THE SIGN Swedish rock’n’roll, pure and simple.
A bit of an antidote to the experimentation of previous album Take It Easy, according to the band, Carry On is a deliberate attempt to strip things back a bit and make a straight-ahead garagerock album – no frills or fuss, just high-octane riffing, plenty of pinball energy, and guitarist Gustav Wremer sounding raspier than usual at the mic.
The no-messing blueprint serves them well as, like a sort of Swedish Ramones or Motörhead, they zip through the mostly sub-three-minute songs with a fervour designed to get bodies slamming with abandon – Headbanger’s Ball, Troublemaker and Just As Bad As You are probably the pick of the bunch for high-speed thrills and spills, and the bluesy midpaced closer Schizoid Lullaby
brings a welcome level of sophistication after all the pedalto-the-metal intensity.
Catchy good-time rock’n’roll delivered with power and passion. ■■■■■■■■■■
