Acoustic re-imaginings of Pineapple Thief songs and Bruce Soord solo material.

Last year, Pineapple Thief mainman Bruce Soord did four acoustic livestreams from his home studio, showcasing both the band’s material and some of his own stuff. These have been collated here.

Soord is clearly talented, and does a fine job adapting the music to the solo acoustic environment. In doing so he does bring out new colourings and shadings. However, by definition this way of presenting material means that he can occasionally sound somewhat one dimensional. In a livestream, under the current restrictions, this is acceptable. But will it bear out even occasional playing of these CDs? In the case of certain tracks, probably not. Inevitably, doing such acoustic performances has positive and negative aspects.

The CDs come in a 48-page hardback book that includes Soord’s notes on each song, plus photos from the livestreams and the studio set-up. ■■■■■■■■■■
