Porcupine Tree
Octane Twisted BURNING SHED
Live album now on vinyl.
On paper, a decade-old live album featuring a latter-period studio album performed in full might not get your adrenaline pumping. But this is Porcupine Tree, and prog fans who still treasure their gatefold sleeves and lovingly packaged waxings will surely welcome this longoverdue official vinyl reissue.
Porcupine Tree’s reputation has only grown since their 2010 split, and here Steven Wilson, Gavin Harrison and friends not only give 2009’s The Incident a feisty workout, but also offer captivating revisions of older material. The Incident gets a faithful reading with an extra zip in the tempo at times. But the older tracks are lent the most striking visceral edge. The power chords cut deeper when The
Blind House smashes in, while the riff churn of The Pills I’m Taking
has a thrillingly grotesque sonic quality. There’s also an urgency and dynamism to Wilson’s vocal delivery and guitar playing, exemplified on the schizo solo on Dislocated Day.
Twisted again? Go on, then. ■■■■■■■■■■
