Classic Sports Car

Welcome

- ALASTAIR CLEMENTS Editor in chief, Classic & Sports Car

This has been the hardest edition of Classic & Sports Car to put together in the 19 years I’ve been involved with the magazine. It’s bigger – with more pages, plus a supplement with everything you need to know about the forthcoming C&SC Show (p185) – and better, with a fresh look and new features. But we have had to do it with a vital piece of the C&SC jigsaw missing, after the tragic loss of our chief sub editor David Evans.

The magazine has been through plenty of changes over the past 12 months, but David was our constant. Many readers will know him only from Our classics, and his dedication to his BMW 2002 and Citroën GSA, but if you’re involved with a car club, the chances are you’ll know him very well – either from his dedicated reporting from shows across the year, or his meticulous organisation of our annual club awards.

It seems ironic that someone who spent his time pulling the strings from behind the scenes should appear in our cover story the month after he left us, but we kept his voice in there because we’re sure it’s what he would have wanted. Whatever he did, David always put C&SC first.

I must also add my gratitude, both to the many club members who took the time to express how much they will miss him, and to the friends and colleagues who have chipped in to help us get this issue over the line.

So thank you, David, and we hope you like it.
