Group C Jags to star at XK70 Festival
Three Jaguar Group C cars, including the 1987 World Sportsprototype Championship-winning XJR-8, will be demonstrated during the XK70 Festival on 9-10 June. The event, which celebrates 70 years since the introduction of the XK120, will be held at Shelsley Walsh in Worcestershire.
The meeting will feature a competitive hillclimb for Xk-engined cars, set to take place on the Saturday and for which entries are still being taken. Sunday, meanwhile, will include parades and demonstration runs by the likes of Goodwood favourite Justin Law – Don Law Racing is due to bring examples of the XJ220 and XJR-15. Eagle will be bringing the XJ220C that won its class at Le Mans in 1993 in the hands of David Coulthard, David Brabham and John Nielson before being controversially disqualified.
Le Mans winner Richard Attwood will be there, as will former Jaguar racers Win Percy, Peter Sutcliffe and Peter Sargent. Pat Quinn – daughter of Sir William Lyons – will talk about her experiences rallying the famous ‘NUB 120’ with her then-husband Ian Appleyard, and Willie Green will tackle the historic hillclimb in several cars, including a long-nose D-type and a C-type.
Organisers are aiming to attract 700 XKS to Shelsley Walsh, including those that were rebodied in period by the likes of Ghia and Bertone. And, as well as Xk-engined models such as the E-type, Mk1, Mk2 and XJ6, later Jaguars including the XK8 and F-type will also be catered for. For more details, go to www.xk70.co.uk
