Button lines up JD Classics drives

-

Jenson Button is set to drive in two historic events for JD Classics during the 2018 season. The first will be the Le Mans Classic, which returns to La Sarthe from 6-8 July.

The 2009 Formula One world champion will take the wheel of a Jaguar XJR-9 – the same model that scored a historic victory in the 1988 24 Hours. Chassis 688 was the final XJR-9 to be built, added to the factory TWR line-up as a replacement for the winning car, which was immediately retired. In July, it was driven to third place at Brno by Johnny Dumfries and Jan Lammers – two-thirds of the Le Mans-winning crew – and then second place at the Spa 1000km, for which Martin Brundle joined Lammers. John Nielson and Andy Wallace retired it during the 1989 Brands Hatch 1000km.

Button will also race at September’s Goodwood Revival; his car will be announced closer to the date.
