Out with a bang
Having just read Martin Buckley’s article on BMC Farinas (Backfire, March), I was reminded of the Vanden Plas 3 Litre owned for many years by my late father. This vehicle was the only one ever built by the factory with two doors. It is thought to have been shown at the 1963 Motor Show, then owned by Lord Kenilworth, Chairman of Armstrong Siddeley.
This unique vehicle was later acquired by certain individuals who proceeded to strip it down and destroy it in a 1992 regional banger race meeting. In spite of Martin Buckley’s reservations, at least the 16/60 Farina driven in the article will continue to live on, albeit in a different form, and not be extinguished in the manner the Vanden Plas 3 Litre suffered.
