Rust in the sills is particularly bad news on the Spider, but also check the door bottoms and look for damp cabin floors or spare-wheel well. Watch out for a crunchy second gear, or jumping out of third or reverse. Engines are long-lived, but check for head-gasket problems or noisy timing chains.
